Heading into the 2008 CQ WW DX Contests, Vitor Santos PY2NY now enjoys a bigger lead in the all-Brazil SA #1 WRTC region, while Lucas Mairov LU1FAM is now back in front in SA #2.
In the Brazilian battle, Santos had a regional win in last year's CQ WW CW test, but that couldn't stop Luciano Moreira PY8AZT/PT7AG from edging a bit closer in the standings.
Moreira notched another 855 points in a Multi-Single entry in last year's CQ WW SSB. He still can add one more single op score to his totals, which should be enough to boost him into first place when more results come in later this year.
In SA #2, which covers all areas of South America outside of Brazil, LU1FAM used a 575 WRTC point single op effort in CQ WW SSB to regain the top slot in this region.
Jorge Salmoyraghi LU1EWL fell from the lead spot to third place, just under four hundred points behind. Juan Pablo Merce LU4DX is in second, just 168 points behind PY8AZT. His scores also have room to grow.
Under the 2010 WRTC rules, one team leader qualifies from each of South America's two regions, making these contests all the more important for the top operators in each region.
Here are the top five operators from SA #1 as found by radio-sport.net. A full spreadsheet link for each region is available.
SA #1 is Brazil.

SA #2 is all of South America outside of Brazil.

There are two qualifying events left for stations in South America, but results must also still come in from six contests that were held earlier this year (Russian DX, WPX CW, WPX SSB, IARU, WAE CW and WAE SSB.)
The unofficial results produced here by radio-sport.net include the final published results of the 2006 and 2007 IARU, the 2006 and 2007 WAE CW and WAE SSB, 2006 the CQ WW CW and SSB contests, 2007 ARRL DX SSB & CW, 2007 Russian DX, 2007 CQ WPX SSB and CW contests, the 2007 CQ WW SSB and CW tests and the 2008 ARRL DX Contests.
(Radio-sport.net has tried to be as accurate as possible. If you find a mistake, or that your score line is missing a contest result, please send us an email and we will be happy to check and correct the numbers.)
Please remember that it is your responsiblity to track your progress and submit your score to the WRTC sponsors.
The qualifying rules allow you to submit your top eight scores from certain contests. No more than four may be from multi-operator efforts.
You will note that some scores in the spreadsheets have been colored in. All multi-ops are noted with a yellow background. Scores from a contest operation outside of your home WRTC region are colored in blue.
A score that was both outside your home region and from a multi-op has a purple color.
The qualifying rules stipulate that no more than four of your eight best scores can come from a multi-operator effort - AND no more than four of your scores can be from outside your "home" region.
On the far right of the spreadsheet, some stations have a list of how many multi-op scores and how many are DX. It is mainly noted for those who are over the limit or close to it.
