2010 WRTC South America: PY2NY Keeps Edge in SA #1; LU4DX Has Narrow Lead In SA #2

By Jamie Dupree NS3T  radio-sport.net
Posted January 12, 2009

While Vitor Santos PY2NY held onto his lead in the SA #1 qualifying region for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships, the SA #2 region got a shakeup, as Juan Pablo Merce LU4DX stormed into the lead for the first time.

Santos PY2NY used strong finishes in the 2008 WPX SSB Contest and Russian DX test to slightly expand his lead over Luciano Moreira PY8AZT/PT7AG. That edge is now 631 points.

That could change after results from other 2008 contests are published.

While PY2NY leads the all-Brazil SA #1 by a decent margin, the numbers are bunched closely together in SA #2.

LU4DX used a top multi finish in WPX SSB to gain his lead of 26 points over Paolo Stradiotto YV1DIG, who stormed into contention with a top low power finish in the 2008 Russian DX.

Back in third now is former leader Lucas Mairov LU1FAM.

Under the 2010 WRTC rules, one team leader qualifies from each of South America's two regions, making these contests all the more important for the top operators in each region.

Here are the top five operators from SA #1 as found by radio-sport.net. A full spreadsheet link for each region is available.

SA #1 is Brazil.

  • PY2NY 5,697 - (8 scores)

  • PY8AZT 5,066 - (7 scores)

  • PT7CB 4,936 - (7 scores)

  • PY2NDX 4,245 - (8 scores)

  • PY2YU 4,209 - (7 scores)

SA #2 is all of South America outside of Brazil.

  • LU4DX 3,631 - (8 scores)

  • YV1DIG 3,605 - (8 scores)

  • LU1FAM 3,440 - (8 scores)

  • LU5DX 3,084 - (8 scores)

  • LU8ADX 2,855 - (8 scores)

There are two qualifying events left for stations in South America, but results must also still come in from six contests that were held earlier this year (Russian DX, WPX CW, WPX SSB, IARU, WAE CW and WAE SSB.)

The unofficial results produced here by radio-sport.net include the final published results of the 2006 and 2007 IARU, the 2006 and 2007 WAE CW and WAE SSB, 2006 the CQ WW CW and SSB contests, 2007 ARRL DX SSB & CW, 2007 Russian DX, 2007 CQ WPX SSB and CW contests, the 2007 CQ WW SSB and CW tests and the 2008 ARRL DX Contests.

(Radio-sport.net has tried to be as accurate as possible. If you find a mistake, or that your score line is missing a contest result, please send us an email and we will be happy to check and correct the numbers.)

Please remember that it is your responsiblity to track your progress and submit your score to the WRTC sponsors.

The qualifying rules allow you to submit your top eight scores from certain contests. No more than four may be from multi-operator efforts.

You will note that some scores in the spreadsheets have been colored in. All multi-ops are noted with a yellow background. Scores from a contest operation outside of your home WRTC region are colored in blue.

A score that was both outside your home region and from a multi-op has a purple color.

The qualifying rules stipulate that no more than four of your eight best scores can come from a multi-operator effort - AND no more than four of your scores can be from outside your "home" region.

On the far right of the spreadsheet, some stations have a list of how many multi-op scores and how many are DX. It is mainly noted for those who are over the limit or close to it.
