WRTC Europe: IZ3EYZ, YT1AD, ES5TV, OM2VL, RW1AC In Top Slots With One Qualifier Left

By Jamie Dupree NS3T  radio-sport.net
Updated January 30, 2009

With results added in from another 2008 contest, the leaders in all five European WRTC regions remain the same in the battle for 21 team leader slots for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships in Russia.

The five regional leaders are Matteo Marzilli IZ3EYZ, Ladislav Vegh OM2VL, Tonno Vahk ES5TV, Hrane Milosevic YT1AD and Vladimir Askenov RW1AC.

In the EU #1 region, numbers from the 2008 WAE CW contest allowed IZ3EYZ to slightly expand his lead over second place Andy Cook G4PIQ to 421 points.

Still in third after the WAE results is former EU #1 leader Philippe Nouchi F6IFY.

Four team leader slots are available from EU #1, and that's where things have changed in this region, as Roberto Soro I2WIJ used a 511 point showing in WAE CW to jump into fourth.

Soro has an edge of 140 points over Jacques Saget F6BEE, with Filipe Lopes CT1ILT behind by another 29 points.

Here are the top five results in EU #1 as determined by radio-sport.net. A full spreadsheet link for each region is available.

EU #1 includes 3A-9H-C3-EA-EA6-CT-CU-F-G-EI-I-T7-TK-ZB2

  • IZ3EYZ 5,971 - (8 scores)

  • G4PIQ 5,550 (8 scores)

  • F6IFY 5,132 - (8 scores)

  • I2WIJ 4,958 - (8 scores)

  • F6BEE 4,818 - (8 scores)

The WAE CW results did nothing to change the point totals of any of the top five operators in EU #2, as the lead still remains in the hands of Ladislav Vegh OM2VL, who hasn't added any points to his totals in some time.

Second place Bernd Och DL6FBL had a 657 point outing in WAE CW, but that did not change his overall score. He remains 33 points ahead of Antal Hudanik HA3OV.

Five team leader slots are available in EU #2, meaning that rigth now Ivan Dobrocky OM3LA and Braco Memic OE1EMS would qualify.

Memic though now is only six points ahead of sixth place Lothar Wilke DL3TD, who won 660 WRTC points in WAE CW to edge even closer.

Here are the top five scores in EU #2: EU #2 has ON-PA-LX-DL-OE-HB-HB0-SP-OK-OM-HA

  • OM2VL 6,220 - (8 scores)

  • DL6FBL 6,110 - (8 scores)

  • HA3OV 6,077 - (7 scores)

  • OM3LA 5,778 - (7 scores)

  • OE1EMS 5,452 - (8 scores)

In EU #3, Tonno Vahk ES5TV did not participate in the 2008 WAE CW, but that didn't matter as he remains in the top WRTC qualifying slot.

The WAE results did help Toni Linden OH2UA, who used 643 WRTC points to vault his way from fifth into second place over. Linden is in good shape at this point to qualify, as he still can add one score to his totals.

Linden's jump pushed Toivo Hallikivi ES2RR back into third place, just 59 points behind OH2UA.

From there it is another 93 points back to fourth place where we find Jurgis Ignota LY2CY, whose 542 point showing in WAE CW squeezed out another 37 points for himi in the standings.. Danius Savicius LY6M is now in the fifth and final slot for WRTC qualifying.

LY6M has a 104 point edge on fellow countryman Ged Lucinskas LY3BA in the fight for that final qualifying spot.

The top five scorers in EU #3 qualify for a WRTC team leader position.

EU #3 is SM-LA-OH-OZ-OY-TF-JW-JX-LY-YL-ES

  • ES5TV 6,468- (8 scores)

  • OH2UA 5,851 - (7 scores)

  • ES2RR 5,792 - (8 scores)

  • LY2CY 5,699 - (8 scores)

  • LY6M 5,211 - (8 scores)

The results from the 2008 WAE CW contest didn't change the five stations in line to qualify at this point from the EU #4 region, though their order did change, as YO3JR jumped to third place.

Still at the top is Hrane Milosevic YT1AD, who did not compete in WAE CW. He leads Tine Brajnik S50A by 126 points.

Busting into third place was Andy Ruse YO3JR, who won the regional high power battle in WAE CW to claim the full 730 WRTC points, edging to within just eight points of S50A in the standings.

YO3JR is now just two points ahead of Andy Kotovsky UU4JMG, who winning effort Multi-Single effort from 4L0A in WAE CW didn't help his overall totals, because of his high finishes in previous contests.

The fifth and final WRTC 2010 qualifying spot for now is still owned by Darko Martincevic 9A5X, but he is only 30 points ahead of Ranko Boca 4O3A, who scored well in the 2008 CQ WW DX Contests.

We'll see in coming months if that's enough to give Boca a WRTC qualifying spot.

As you look at the spreadsheet for EU #4, don't forget UU0JM, UT5UGR and 9A9A have been disqualified from the WRTC competition. They calls are colored in aqua blue.

Under the 2010 WRTC rules, anyone who is DQ'd from a WRTC qualifying contest is not eligible for the competition in Russia.

Radio-sport.net will continue to list the totals of the disqualified stations in the spreadsheets, but not in the overall summaries printed here.

EU #4 is UR-EW-ER-LZ-SV-YO-YU-S5-9A-ZA-Z3-T9-4O

  • YT1AD 6,090 - (8 scores)

  • S50A 5,874 - (8 scores)

  • YO3JR 5,866 - (7 scores)

  • UU4JMG 5,864 - (8 scores)

  • 9A5X 5,596 - (8 scores)

In the all-Russian EU #5 region, the lead remains Vladimir Askenov RW1AC, though his lead shrunk slightly from just a few months ago.

For the past year, Askenov had the highest score of any European station in the WRTC qualifying process, but he's now dropped behind Tonno Vahk ES5TV.

Unlike the rest of Europe, EU #5 only has two team leader slots available, and right now that is in the hands of Andy Melanin UA3DPX, who scored well in Russian DX and the 2008 WPX SSB test.

Melanin has a 176 point edge on Igor Avdeev UA2FZ. It's just another 50 points back to Igor Burykh UA3QDX, who fell from second place, showing that the 2009 Russian DX Contest could well determine the fate of many WRTC entrants. EU #5 is European Russia

  • RW1AC 6,441 - (8 scores)

  • UA3DPX 5,745 - (8 scores)

  • UA2FZ 5,569 - (8 scores)

  • UA3QDX 5,519 - (8 scores)

  • RV3BA 5,453 - (8 scores)

There is only one qualifying event left for stations in Europe, but results must still come in from five contests that were held in 2008: WPX CW, IARU, WAE SSB and both legs of CQ WW DX.

The unofficial results produced here by radio-sport.net include the final published results of the 2006 and 2007 IARU, the 2006 and 2007 WAE CW and WAE SSB, 2006 the CQ WW CW and SSB contests, 2007 ARRL DX SSB & CW, 2007 & 2008 Russian DX, 2007 CQ WPX SSB and CW contests, the 2007 CQ WW SSB and CW tests, the 2008 ARRL DX Contests, 2008 WAE CW and the 2008 CQ WPX SSB.

(Radio-sport.net has tried to be as accurate as possible. If you find a mistake, or that your score line is missing a contest result, please send us an email and we will be happy to check and correct the numbers.)

The qualifying rules allow you to submit your top eight scores from certain contests. No more than four may be from multi-operator efforts.

You will note that some scores in the spreadsheets have been colored in. All multi-ops are noted with a yellow background. Scores from a contest operation outside of your home WRTC region are colored in blue.

A score that was both outside your home region and from a multi-op has a purple color.
