MORE WRTC POINTS UP IN CQ WW CW

As contesters around the world get ready for the 2010 CQ WW CW Contest this weekend, it also represents a second chance for competitors to pick up the maximum 1,000 qualifying points for the 2014 World Radiosport Team Championship in New England. For most of the world, this is only the second qualifying event - the first being this year's CQ WW SSB - but in North America, it's already qualifier #4. NEW

2014 WRTC AWARDED TO UNITED STATES

For the third time, the United States will play host to the World Cup of ham radio contesting, as the World Radiosport Team Championships will return to the U.S. in 2014. The selection was announced by WRTC Sanctioning Committee chairman Tine Brajnik, as the US group, led by K1DG and K5ZD won out over a group from Bulgaria. NEW

In a very close finish, the Russian duo of RW1AC and RA1AIP won a narrow victory in the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championship, the first time a team from outside North America has ever won the top prize in the "World Cup" of the ham radio contest community. NEW

45 teams are now complete for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships in Russia, as the team leaders who qualified for next year's contest have selected their teammates. CONTROVERSY OVER SOME WRTC PICKS

After going through 76 entries from around the world, the organizers of the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships announced on Sunday the 44 winners of team leader positions for what is essentially the World Cup of ham radio contesting. Left out of those selections was one leader from Europe and a top finisher from Asia as well, even though they submitted their applications, while one op who was disqualified from CQ WW SSB got a team leader's slot. While other qualifying regions around the world had some shakeups in the final three contests for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships, the four American regions played out pretty much as expected, with the closest and hardest fought battle was in the East Coast NA #1.

WRTC EUROPE: 21 QUALIFIERS NOW IN

The numbers are all in for Europe, as the final results of the last three WRTC qualifying contests caused a bit of a shakeup, but no major surprises, for some of those trying to qualify for 21 team leader slots available to Europe for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships.

The unofficial radio-sport.net numbers show the five regional qualifiers are now Andy Cook G4PIQ, Ivan Dobrocky OM3LA, Tonno Vahk ES5TV, Ranko Boca 4O3A and Vladimir Askenov RW1AC. Check the spreadsheets to see where the top scorers came out. NEW

ASIA WRTC: JH4UYB LEADS THE WORLD

The final WRTC qualifying results left the five of the six Asians leaders the same for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships, as JH4UYB, UA9CLB, UA9AM, UN9LW, and ZC4LI stayed ahead. After months of close battles in both of Canada's qualifying regions, VE3DZ and VE7CC have emerged on top in the chase for two team leader slots to the 2010 World Radiosport Championships in Russia. There were no surprises from the results of the final three WRTC qualifying contests, as PT8AZT and YV1DIG locked up reservations to Russia 2010 for the World Radiosport Team Championships. WRTC OCEANIA: VK2IA, KH6ND ON TOP

Like a thoroughbred making a late charge down the stretch, Bernd Langer VK2IA clinched a spot in the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships, joining Mike Gibson KH6ND, who easily won the OC #2 region. C.AMERICA SENDS HI3TEJ TO RUSSIA

The numbers are all in for Central American qualifying for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships, as the unofficial radio-sport.net review of over two years of results shows that Teddy Jiminez HI3TEJ has claimed the one regional team leader slot. Jiminez cemented his lead with a top low power finish in both the 2008 CQ WW SSB contest and the 2009 Russian DX test. NEW

WRTC AFRICA: EA8CAC WINS AT THE WIRE

RAfter staying ahead of all others in African qualifying for the 2010 World Radiosport Championships, Jorge Taboada Pareja EA9LZ was caught at the wire by a late rush from Juan Hidalgo EA8CAC in the race for the one African team leader WRTC slot. WRTC SHOOTOUT IN 2009 RUSSIAN DX TEST

It's March Madness in this year's Russian DX Contest, as for almost the entire world, this is the final qualifier for the 2010 World Radiosport Team Championships in Russia.
